This is one of Gary's earliest leading roles and it costarred Clara Bow and Esther Ralston. Up to this point he had mostly done bit parts or roles in Westerns and in this society melodrama, he felt very out of place. He was so bad that he actually got fired. The man they replaced him with was worse so they hunted him down and rehired him. Reportedly, they had to shoot some of his scenes with him sitting down because his knees were visibly shaking. There is one scene where he is supposed to breeze into a party with a glass of champagne and make his way through the crowd flirting with the girls along the way. They had to shoot that scene around 20 to 30 times because he kept spilling his drink on the girls. He later joked about that scene and said it seemed like the room stretched out for miles and he was sure he would never make it – thank goodness for us he did
