This contest is going to be like a scavenger hunt where you will have to find things posted here at the site. It will be in two parts spanning the next several days. There will be twenty things you have find all together. The first ten are posted below and on Jan 26th I will post the next ten. You will have through the 31st to post your replies for both parts. Whoever gets the most right first will win the grand prize and there will also be a prize for second place. I will post the prizes with the second part of the scavenger hunt. So, the quicker you find the answers and send them to me, the better chance you have of winning. Good luck everybody and have fun! Scavenger Hunt Part One1 - Find the 1920s article where his name is spelled ‘Garry Cooper’ and post the link here. 2 - Find the 1930s article that has as part of it’s title: “Watch out Gable! We’re re-discovering Gary” and post the link here. 3 - Post the 1930s magazine cover with Gary and June Collyer 4 - There are several pictures of Gary with his 1930 Duesenberg, post anyone of them here. It has to be a pic of him with the car so don’t post a pic of the car alone or the model I have. 5 - Post the pic of George Raft, Norma Shearer, Gary, and Rocky at a fancy party/award ceremony. 6 - Post the 1940s movie ad that has a note at the bottom right corner saying “Not Suitable for General Exhibition” 7 - Gary costarred in a film with the first man to win the Best Actor Academy award. Post a picture of them from their film and name the man who won the award. 8 - Post one of the movie ads here from the first film where Gary had spoken dialogue. 9 - According to a 1940s article what would Gary have done “If I’d thought of it in time”? Post the answer and the link to the article here. 10 - We get a peak inside of Gary’s suitcase in one article from the 1940s. There are two books in it. The title is partly obscured on one but the other is completely visible. Name the author and the title of the visible one.

I was thinking about this and I think the best way to send me your answers would be through a private message. I'm going to lock this thread so you won't be able to reply to it. If you have any questions just send me a PM.
Don't forget, you can send your answers anytime, you don't have to wait until the 31st b/c whoever sends the most correct answers first will win.

I was going to post the next 10 questions today but I am sick with a bad sinus infection so we'll put the contest on hold for a couple days. I hope to pick it back up later in the week.

I'm still getting over being sick and only had the energy to come up with six questions for the second part instead of ten. Send me your answers in a PM and remember, whoever gets the most right first, wins. You have until the end of the day on Feb 5th to send the answers to all 16 questions (that is, if you haven't already sent in the answers to the first 10). Just to keep you in a little more suspense, I'll wait until the contest is over to post the prizes for 1st and 2nd place. 1 - Find the article where Gary’s father said, “Women are crazy about a tall man…You just sit in a streetcar sometime, and watch the men come in. Whenever a tall man gets on, all the women begin to take notice and get out their powder puffs.” 2 - Find the movie review that states about Gary, “…I can almost promise he’ll become your favorite actor when you see this picture.”3 - Find the movie review that states about Gary, “This picture will make him the screen’s number one star!” 4 - Find the article that says this, “The Gary Cooper specialty role usually called for a hero who was basically peace-loving and slow to action-but who could also move mountains when his sense of justice or fairplay was outraged.” The last two come from the various Gossip Columns & Tidbits threads in the Articles section. 5 - Who did Gary go out to the Mojave Desert to race cars with and what year was that? 6 - Who told Gary, “Evidently you don’t know it, you overgrown beagle, but you’re one of the best actors out here!”

Only two people responded and since I'm giving first and second place prizes, Nayeli won first place and Marina is second. I was surprised only two responded and I'm curious if the contest was too confusing b/c there was some confusion at the beginning as my instructions weren't clear or if maybe it was too time intensive. I'd like to do another one in this style but I'd like your feedback first so I can make the next one better. On to the prizes! Nayeli as the first place winner can choose five of the films listed at the bottom of the post as well as receiving a hardback version of the book The Films of Gary Cooper by Homer Dickens and a cd copy of Gary's Friars Club Roast from Jan 1961. Marina in second place can choose three of the films listed below and will also receive the Roast cd and a clippings packet to start (or add to) your own Gary scrapbook. The Last Outlaw - 1927 (Silent) Poor Wings - 1927 (Silent) Very Good Nevada - 1927 (Silent) Poor Doomsday - 1928 (Silent - with a new score put together by me as the music on the dvd was terrible) Good Lilac Time - 1928 (Silent) Good The Virginian – 1929 Very Good Seven Days Leave – 1930 Poor Only the Brave – 1930 Poor A Man From Wyoming – 1930 Poor City Streets – 1931 Good His Woman – 1931 Poor If I Had A Million – 1932 Excellent Desire – 1936 Excellent Souls at Sea – 1937 Excellent Northwest Mounted Police – 1940 Excellent The Story of Dr. Wassell – 1944 Excellent Good Sam – 1948 Very Good Blowing Wild – 1953 Very Good Ten North Frederick – 1958 Excellent The Hanging Tree – 1959 Very Good The Naked Edge – 1961 Excellent Thanks y'all for participating and I hope you had fun. Send me your addresses in a PM and I'll try to get these out to you within a week.

OH MY GOD!!! This is the very first time that I win a contest in my life... But the prizes, oh, I had no idea of how BIG they were!!! ;D After a hard work's week that is not even finished yet, because I have to go tomorrow, now I think I could be going in the bus and singing "I'm driving, I'm driving, I'm driving, I'm driving, I'm driving my Bronson 8..." ;D Thank you Angie for these funny and didactical contests... I really learned a lot more on Gary while I was doing my scavenger hunting... I'm your fan! ;D

Well done Nayeli & Marina, ;D I was pipped to the post. What fantastic prizes. It was a great contest Ang, I think the posting of the replies threw me a bit but in the end the best men won. Keep up the good work it was an amazing scavenger hunt and as Nayeli said it helped her learn a lot more about Gary and I'm all for that. "CONGRATULATIONS"

I'm so sorry I couldn't participate. Coopsgirl, you did such a fantastic job! - I actually hadn't enough time to go so deep into this (wonderful!) matter. I have "high season" with my job. During summer time, that is my "low season" I hope I will have more time to participate in such a challenging contest. (The first contest required so little time to accomplish Ena

I have a question Ang, is the Roast CD you mention the full event or just the clips we can see on you-tube. Also there is a mention by Mariastwin of a Radio show with Gary's Mother and him as the guest. "Where could one obtain such things"

Congrats to the winners and I'm glad y'all had fun! I'm going to mix the contests up so that some will be easy and quick and then others will take more time so that way, everyone who wants to can participate. About the roast cd, I have the entire thing on a set of 3 albums. I just got a new record player that can record vinyl to cd so now I have the whole thing on CDs. I also have the radio show called "Listen to Grandma" with Gary's mother and it's very cute. I'm am going to try to upload that one to the archives.org site where you can find some other of his radio shows. I'll post it in the Radio section if I'm able to do it. Otherwise you can buy it here: www.otrcat.com/gary-cooper-collection-p-48630.html

Thanks again! Ahh, finally I could say to my Mother the reason why I was awake at 3:00 a.m. the other day, and I said Ma, now you see it was worth it! Yay! ;D Besides she can't make any complaint since I gave her weeks ago a watch with a Gary's picture on it...

I'm still working on copying the movies for y'all. I just got a new computer, a Mac, and I've never had one before and it's very different from PC so I'm still learning it. I did figure out how to copy dvd's so now I've got them going and it should be sometime next week that I can get them sent out. So far, I'm really liking the new computer. My cousin gave me some Apple gift cards for Christmas and my parents chipped in the rest since most of my money goes to college tuition. I've got a great family!
