We have some British site members here and to them and all the other Anglophiles out there (myself included-I went to graduate school in London) I'd like to say congratulations to Queen Elizabeth II on her diamond jubilee. She is only the second monarch in British history to reign for 60 years, Queen Victoria being the first. Congrats and many happy returns!! Elizabeth and her husband Prince Phillip

I was the first girl born in my home town on 2nd June 1953, the day of the Queens coronation and so was named Elizabeth Margaret. I love the photo's of Gary with the Queen, her favourite star. Gary was so at ease with the Royal family.

Luckydog, When I was in undergraduate school (in Texas where I grew up and still live) I went on a study abroad trip during the summer one year and we stayed in Canterbury. I had always loved England and after having actually been there I wanted to be able to spend more time there so going to graduate school in London was the perfect way to do it. Also in the U.S. it takes 2 years to get a Masters degree but in England it only took one year as the program is more intensive. I grew up in the country and living in London for a year was a lot of fun. I met people from all over the world and travelled around to see a lot of the country and spent a week in Paris as well. That was 11 years ago but it still seems just like yesterday. ;D

I did go to Pere Lachaise as I love old graveyards. It's a beautiful and peaceful place. We're on the same wavelength as I was also not that impressed with the Mona Lisa. It was neat to see it because it's so famous but there are much more beautiful paintings out there. My favorite things in the Louvre are the Nike of Samothrace and the Cupid and Psyche statues.
I used a student discount for everything I could while in London and I had saved up some money prior to starting school there and my parents helped a lot (my stepdad worked two jobs to help pay for it).
