To all American members on this board I'm sure it's obvious but I was wondering, as a European, what kind of dialect did Gary speak? I mean I'm familiar with a lot of American dialects but I have no clue what exactly he spoke or if it is a mix of several dialects. Is this typical for Montana?

Good question. I don't know if his way of speaking is typical of other people from Montana but he definitely had what we would call a western drawl. I'm from Texas and he pronounces a lot of words that same way I do. One in particular that stands out is the way he said "further"; he sometimes said "futher" without the first 'r' which is how we say it usually in Texas. If I didn't know he was from Montana and had to guess where he was from by the way he spoke I would think he was from Texas. Geographically Montana and Texas are not close together but we're both western states (Texas is partly south and west actually) and we have a similar type of rugged, outdoorsy, independent culture.
